For one day in 1903, a sporting event took place in Ireland which not only profoundly altered the future of that sport worldwide, but also had a lasting impact on both Irish sport and society. The race was the International Gordon Bennett Cup race, carried out on newly repaired, and sometimes rolled, roads of Carlow, Laois and Kildare. A film was commissioned by the Heritage Offices of these three counties to showcase the story of this amazing event, which is still commemorated annually with a vintage car rally bringing enthusiasts from all over the world.

Join us at the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise at 7pm on Thursday 22nd August for a FREE viewing (Booking essential). On the night there will also be a number of vintage cars on show and a small exhibit of original Gordon Bennett race paraphernalia.

Refreshments available after the show.
Film running time: approx. 40 minutes.
